Find the unknown in the known
The N-TS allows the non-targeted search for unexpected and unknown organic substances in complex samples. This provides an overview of the composition of the samples in terms of quality, presence and absence of undesirable or possibly toxic byproducts.
Analytical challenges
The search for (un)known, chemically very diverse polar and non-polar substances requires a broad spectrum of selective chromatographic separation techniques such as reversed phase chromatography (RPLC) or hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC).
The detection also has to meet very high requirements, as an enormous amount of data must be recorded and processed. High sensitivity, resolution and accurate mass detection are the key to success. This is achieved by using tandem mass spectrometers such as Orbitrap instruments and Q-TOF systems. This often provides direct information on the structure of unknown substances. The resulting enormous amount of data is processed and evaluated using structured workflows and the results are compiled in a clear manner.
